What happened ?

On August 6, 1945, American military dropped a massive nuclear bomb ("Little Boy") on the City of Hiroshima, Japan which caused massive loss of life and destruction. Then, another nuclear bomb ("Fat man") was dropped in the City of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. There has been great controversy regarding the justification for these bombings but one thing has been clear: United States had warned Japan in the "Postdam Declaration on 26 July, 1945, where US threatened Japan with "promt and ulter destruction" if it didn't surrender as previously agreed. The war by the allies had ended in Europe when Germany signed its "Instrument of Surrender", but the Japanese continued to attack in the Pacific Theatre.

The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the lives of more than 200,000 people, including a large number of civilians, with thousands of women and children as well. More lives were affected as radiation and high temperatures caused injuries and disabilities to more than 100,000 people.
